Latest Weekly Report

Week 2

The Mother's Day swim was conducted in near perfect conditions. Yet again the tides were friendly and the water temperatures less than Arctic. Numbers were excellent, and the club thanks all those who rearranged their commitments to include their dose of "winter" swimming.

The results this week confirmed the emergence of Bob Callaghan as a genuine threat in the 33, 66 and overall competition for year 2012. Accordingly, his odds in the overall have shortened from 5-2 into 6-4. Heidi Norman had a day to remember with finals appearances in both the 33 and 66. Amongst the time trialists, Paul Galea, Brad Stevens and Quet Bell looked impressive and will give the handicappers a few headaches in the upcoming weeks. One of those handicappers, Tracey Jannusch was an easy winner of the 33 and may need to take a more strict approach in respect of her own handicapping situation. Caroline Smith, Gordon Manuel and Steve Bell, Eskimo's finest, are finding it tough to rise to the next level. and mid week training is recommended....if that doesn't work, there's always the steroid approach.

Great to see some familiar faces return to the racing ranks............the Stents, namely Bobbi and George, the Sonny and Cher of the Eskies. Chubby and Victoria came down from the Tweed Coast to test the waters, and of course the great Paul "Boof" Smith back from exile with a friendly handicap and straight into the winner's circle in his 66 heat.

Many thanks to the usual helpers on the promenade, and to those in the kitchen.

Fees ($40 and $50) are, of course, due....see John Stewart.

Important dates coming up.....June 10th Pub crawl, possible interclub swim with the Bronte Splashers June 17th????????? and Metrops July 1st.

See you all next week! Music theme, songs relating to green..a celebration of the famous "mushy peas". Feel free to wear green!

Peter Sulman

Please remember to pay your annual fees!
